Founded in 1947, the Jackson Civic Art Association – today known as the Jackson Art Association – includes members who are both professional and amateur artists, as well as those interested in supporting the visual arts. Our mission is to enrich the appreciation of visual art by fostering fellowship among artists of all levels in Jackson and the surrounding areas. We provide opportunities for creative expression through diverse mediums, we support artistic growth, and encourage public engagement with the visual arts. JAA meets for the purpose of growing and enriching our appreciation of art, sharing fellowship and support, and enlarging our knowledge of various mediums and techniques. We have a wide variety of activities for our members and many of them are open to the public. The Jackson Art Association is 501(c)(3) as recognized by the IRS.

Each month, JAA members are invited to bring in a finished or in-progress artwork to share with fellow artists. This informal, supportive setting gives members the opportunity to talk through their creative process, discuss techniques and materials, and explain the ideas, experiences, or stories that inspired the piece. By hearing different perspectives and approaches, participants gain insight into a wide range of artistic practices while building confidence in sharing their work.
